A thunderous sound was heard across Maiduguri even as there are fears many people might have been killed or injured.
The incident happened along One Way, a popular road at the market where two female suicide bombers killed many people on two separate occasions last year.
Hundreds of people were seen going out of the market, traders locking their shops while humanitarian agencies, such as Red Cross and NEMA were seen at the scene.
Witnesses said the bomb blast was perpetrated by a ten year old suicide bomber.
A youth vigilante who was near the scene said the girl detonated her explosive in the midst of people.
"The girl is about ten years old...the bomb tore her body into two and flung the lower part across buildings and fell near the highway. It also killed many people while decapitated bodies litter the scene," he said.
