Guy Scott has declared today's election of Edgar Lungu as the
presidential candidate for the Patriotic Front party to be "null and
void."
According to Zambia's Acting President these party elections held in
Kabwe this weekend were "illegal and unconstitutional," as none of the
other nine candidates had even been in attendance due to a standing
court injunction.
Lungu's supporters had allegedly conspired to make him the sole
candidate with 200 delegates in attendance, "which is obviously a very
peculiar form of electoral practice," Guy Scott told Bloomberg in an
interview.
Patriotic Front chairwoman Inonge Wina yesterday declared the party's
presidency vacant, and then included people who weren't members of the
Patriotic Front, according to Guy Scott.
