Zambia Railways Director of Finance Elijah Nyirenda has died mysteriously a day after objecting to Patriotic Front manoeuvres to syphon money from the railway company to fund Presidential campaigns.

Nyirenda who was put to rest at Ndola’s Kansenshi cemetery on Saturday fell ill in his office at the new offices in Lusaka. He asked a company driver to drive him to his residence. He was stating alone as his family was still in Ndola. When the driver went to check on him later, he found him struggling for his life. He was rushed to UTH where he died shortly afterwards.

Meanwhile sources from the company have disclosed that government had pressurized the Zambia Railways to transfer Ten million Kwacha to a named bank account dubbed ‘Infrastructure Development Account’ which they want to use to finance Edgar Lungu’s Presidential campaign.

Nyirenda however objected to the manoeuvre and suggested that management seeks guidance from the board. The Zambia Railways board is headed by PF secretary general Davis Chama while managing director Muyenga Atanga is husband to dismissed Party secretary general Bridget Atanga.

Elijah is a key witness in the corruption cases involving former Zambia Railways boss Clive Chirwa and his then director of Finance Reginah Mwale.
