Burkina Faso appoints interim President

Burkina Faso's former foreign minister Michel Kafando has been named as the Nation's transitional President after the forced exit  of President Blaise Compaore and a brief military take over. 72 year old Kafando was once Burkina's envoy to the United Nations, President of its security council as well as having served as a foreign minister.

He is expected to name a Prime minister shortly as well as appoint a 25-member government. Kafando while addressing journalists and the committe that appointed him said  "The committee has just designated me to guide temporarily the destiny of our country. This is more than an honour. It's a true mission which I will take with the utmost seriousness,"

The appointing committee which was made up of the army, traditional and religious groups, civil society and the political opposition had narrowed their selection down to five people before appointing Michel Kafando in the early hours of this morning.

We are wishing President Kafando a fruitful tenure are he guides Burkina Faso back to a proper democratic process
