Nigeria's presidential nominations forms cost an eye water minimum of $100,000

Election nomination forms in Nigeria are so expensive some aspirants are having to take out bank loans to fund the process. The nation's leading party is charging 22million Naira (about $132,000) for the Presidential nomination form while the main opposiition party APC is charging 27.5million naira.

Other electoral positions such as governorship aspirants have to pay the PDP 11 million naira while the APC wants 10 million naira for the  nomination forms alone. There is no guarantee of victory for this small fortune.

Political and legal analysts say the exorbitant rates in Nigeria are illegal, discourage popular participation in the electoral process and consolidate power among the wealthy elite.

"The incredible amount of money charged by political parties for nomination forms only reflects the dangerous connection between politics and big business and the disconnect it fosters on the silent majority," said Eneruvie Enakoko, formerly of the Transition Monitoring Group of non-profit organisations promoting democratic values.

It does look like the electoral postions are meant for the wealthy in this African narion
