Nigerian cement industry currently provides 2.3 million jobs in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, has said that cement production accounts for over 2.3 million jobs in Nigeria. Speaking at the ongoing Public Affairs Forum, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, said under the present dispensation, cement industry accounts for 2.3 million jobs provided for Nigerians.
“In 2011, the ministry could only account for 600,000 jobs in cement production but now the ministry can account for over 2.3million jobs,” Mr. Aganga explained.

He added that the ministry now exports cements as opposed to 2011 when it only imported cements. Mr. Aganga added that Nigeria now produces sugar from sugar cane, stating that Dangote has invested heavily in the prodution of sugar. He said states in North-West massively produce sugar.
 
“Our idea is to diversify, but we wanted to have a solid industrial plan, we could not avoid importing,” he said. Mr. Aganga said sugar production in 2011 only created 11,000 jobs but now it has created over 120,000 jobs in Nigeria. He added that over 22 car manufacturing companies have signed on to start manufacturing in Nigeria
