The African belief of the after life

Traditionally, most African cultures believe in the after life. They believe that when people die, their souls/spirits depart from their bodies and most times take on a new human body and are reborn. This is a clear concept of reincarnation.

Some cultures give exceptions to coming back to life. Some believe that a 'wicked' person finds it difficult to find a new vessel (body) to come back to life in thus their spirit remain restless and continue to roam the earth. In some cases, the spirits have to be appeased for them to find rest.

Strong cases are usually put forward on reincarnation. A boy child been born at about thesame time their grandfather died. The child may be said to be the dead man coming back to life. As time goes on, the child may start to demonstrate certain traits that were peculiar to the dead man - like been fond of a particular person the dead man was fond of in his lifetime, loving a particular meal as the grandfather, even having same facial expressions or mannerism. This can be eerie.

What is your take on reincarnation and after life?
