Are African nations mature enough to be independent.

Today, one of Africa's most populous nations celebrated its 54th year of Independence from colonial rule. The oil rich nation was colonised by the British empire and through activism and agitation, was made an independent state on the 1st of October 1960.

With the exit of the British, the country has been sieged with cases of corruption, coups and counter coups, clamour for resource control and at some point a civil war.

One school of thoought opines that the British left too soon and had they stayed longer, Nigeria would have had better infrastructure than South Africa.

The question is - do you think Nigeria would have fared better if it has remained a British colony for a little longer than it did?
